Mrs. Prunty’s vision is to provide an outlet where the youth may experience the world of professionalism, performance, and training, in a number of dance styles such as Tap, Hip-Hop, Salsa, West African, Jazz Ballet, and Modern. Every human has an intrinsic gravitation to some aspect of creative expression, be it dance, music, painting, drawing, or singing, and so forth. Her focus is to be an advocate and mentor who hopes to encourage and instill confidence into the special and specific talents of today’s youth and people of all ages. If, through her efforts, they do desire to aspire to new heights through the field of dance professionally or they merely participate to enjoy themselves, they will have the focus and confidence to continue to follow after their dreams, accomplish their goals, secure a bright future for themselves and inspire and help others along the way.
Leah Prunty Dance Arts (LPDA) is a fun dance entity in existence to give today’s youth the ability to express themselves creatively through an array of dance styles. Dance provides people with the opportunity to discover and effectively use one’s creative abilities, while gaining self esteem and learning invaluable life lessons. LPDA gives children (and adults alike) the fundamentals, discipline, and instruction to learn, and grow through dance, and have a great time doing it!
Mission
Mrs. Prunty’s mission is to break the monotony of the mainstream media’s view of dance. The “popular” perception of entertainment (outside of most intellectual artistic circles) has sadly become incredibly saturated with distortions of sex and sensuality. Images and terms that young children should not be exposed to, are widespread and getting worse. These images, along with pointless, rage-inspired, careless, senseless, fear-instigating, macho, and corrupted ideas of what is “important,” are being accepted and even allowed in homes at younger and younger ages. In other words, a disgusting equation is threatening to pollute our children’s minds: money, fast cars, big houses and women (or strange men to pay for everything) = power, respect, and “the good life.” To combat this epidemic, it will take a positive and effective application of positive and rational values and common sense, beginning at home, continuing through mentors, and if chosen, through Mrs. Prunty’s program. Tools such as a realistic outlook, correctly balanced self confidence, respect for one’s self and others, wisdom and opportunity are invaluable. They will be crucial for revitalizing our communities. People young and old can experience dance as a true art, and as a gateway to inner freedom and joy.
